Wauton Samuel have worked closely with the DCSF and LA's to help them develop a nation wide 'specification' for the school workforce. We also provide an application that will help schools collect and store the information required for each census return. Current users of our PASAPP and Finance module software will be able to use information already collected in these applications within the School Workforce application as soon as it is installed, new users can preview the application below by contacting us using our contact us page

• Background

  What is the School Workforce (SWF) Census?

  Ministers have approved a revised school workforce pilot programme with the first pilot scheduled to commence in January 2008. If the pilots are successful, national rollout will take place in January 2010. To pilot the collection of school workforce data and ensure a successful outcome it was important that a range of different LAs were involved. In total 34 LAs are participating in the first pilot.
  
  School Census currently has two levels: pupil level and school level. The Department is now working with pilot LAs to create a new level — the School Workforce (SWF) level, based on the School Workforce (formerly 'Adult')

• Information Collected

  Who? All teachers and all support staff who work in the school irrespective of who pays the salary, this includes:
  • Teachers with and without QTS
  • Support staff employed by the school
  • Agency staff (teachers and support staff)
  • Staff supplied by the LA or any other source
  • Temporary staff who have been in continuous service for at least one month
  • Premises staff
  • Meals subervisors
  • Cleaners
  What? Different information is recored for individuals performing different duties with teachers having the most data collected about them and non-class based support staff having the least. The full range includes:
  • Staff (personal) Details
  • Contract Details
  • Absence Details
  • Curriculum (secondary schools only)
  • Qualifications
  Information on vacancies and occasional staff employed on the Census Day is also included in the January Census.

  When? The School Workforce Census is scheduled to be completed three times a year:

  • 3rd Thursday in January
  • 3rd Thursday in May
  • 3rd Thursday in September
  Each return includes:
  'Snap shot' data, eg. who was employed on the Census Day and Who was absent on the Census Day.
  'Continuous' data, eg. Any changes to contracts which occurred in the previous term and a history of absenses which occurred in the previous calendar year.

  The First Pilot Census Date is Thursday 17th of January - 2008
